Sehr verehrtes Fräulein Basile!
Von Oberleutnant Gruner bekam ich heute einen Brief in welchem er mir mitteilte dass er vor einigen Tagen bei Ihnen in One wieder zu Gast war. Da er voraussichtlich in Kürze wieder in O. zu tun hat, hat er sich bereit erklärt Ihr Buch welches sich ja noch immer in meinem Besitz befindet, mitzunehmen. Ich schicke das Büchlein heute auf dem Kurierwege an Oberleutnant Gruner und hoffe, dass er es Ihnen in allerkűrzester Zeit wieder zustellen wird. Bei dieser Gelegenheit danke ich Ihnen nochmals für Ihre Freundlichkeit mit der Sie mir das Büchlein zur Verfügung gestellt haben und bedauere sehr, dass ich bisher keine Gelegenheit zu irgendeiner Gegenleistung fand.
Seien Sie für heute vielmals gegrüsst und wenn Sie einmal Langeweile und nichts besseres zu tun haben, schreiben sie mir doch einmal. Freuen tue ich mich bestimmt sehr darüber.

Carissima signorina Basile!
Oggi ho ricevuto una lettera dall’Oberleutnant Gruner nella quale mi comunicava che alcuni giorni fa è stato nuovamente ospite da voi a One. Poiché presumibilmente tornerà a breve a O., si è già dichiarato disposto a portare con sé il vostro libro che si trova ancora in mio possesso. Oggi invio il libretto per corriere espresso all’Oberleutnant Gruner e spero che ve lo possa recapitare quanto prima. Colgo questa occasione per ringraziarvi ancora una volta per la vostra gentilezza con cui mi avete messo a disposizione il libretto e mi dispiace molto di non aver ancora trovato occasione per una contraccambiare in qualche modo.
Per oggi ricevete i miei più cordiali saluti e se un giorno avrete tempo e niente di meglio da fare, scrivetemi pure. Me ne rallegrerò davvero molto.

Most honored Miss Basile!
Today I received a letter from Oberleutnant Gruner in which he informed me that he was a guest at your home in One again a few days ago. Since he will likely have business in O. again shortly, he has declared himself willing to take your book, which is still in my possession. I am sending the booklet to Oberleutnant Gruner by courier today and hope that he will be able to deliver it to you very soon. I take this opportunity to thank you once again for your kindness in making the booklet available to me, and I very much regret that I have not yet found an opportunity to reciprocate in any way.
For today, please accept my warmest greetings, and if you ever have some spare time and nothing better to do, please write to me. I would certainly be very pleased about it.

[2] Nel 1944 la situazione della Zona Industriale di Ferrara si presentava estremamente desolante a causa dei bombardamenti aerei: le strade furono sconvolte, i binari ferroviari divelti, i ponti distrutti, le centrali di sollevamento delle acque putride rase al suolo. Molti stabilimenti costruiti ex novo (o già esistenti al 1937) furono colpiti, tanto che “tutte le attività produttive si fermarono o vennero trasferite in luoghi più sicuri”6. Diversi stabilimenti nati nella zona grazie al R.D.L. del 1936 cessarono la produzione dopo la guerra, oppure furono talmente trasformati sia sotto l’aspetto architettonico che produttivo da non essere più riconoscibili. Fanno eccezione alcuni complessi architettonici tuttora esistenti, in particolare lungo la via Marconi che, pur essendo anch’essi destinati oggi ad altri usi, conservano in gran parte l’aspetto tipico di quel periodo (fine anni Trenta – inizi anni Quaranta), come l’ex Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale7.
